Please note that a limited number of spots is still available for both days of the conference. If you are interested in joining, please send your name and affiliation to Ms. Megan Ferrando (m.m.ferrando@law.leidenuniv.nl) by 3 February 2026.
On 10 and 11 February 2026, the Van Vollenhoven Institute of Leiden University, and the Centre for Law and Society Studies of Benghazi University will host the final conference of the ‘Access to Justice in Libya’ project in Leiden. This conference will follow up on the final conference held in Tripoli on 27 and 28 January, which will bring together key Libyan experts and policymakers. The final conference in Leiden will provide a platform for a more internationally oriented exchange between Libyan and Dutch/European academics, legal scholars, and policymakers on Access to Justice in Libya (A2JiL). It will also form an opportunity to present the results of this five-year research project – which produced numerous case studies and reflection papers, as well as a first ever
nationwide survey on access to justice in Libya – and present and discuss suggestions for steps towards a Libyan National Strategy on A2JiL.
The 'Access to Justice in Libya' project (2021-2026), funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has aimed to ascertain whether, to which extent, and how, in a country plagued by political and institutional divide, armed conflict and lack of security, people, especially members of vulnerable groups, have access to justice, and how to improve such access by identifying and reducing barriers.
