Final conference 'Access to Justice in Libya' project in Tripoli, Libya
On 27 and 28 January 2026, the Centre for Law and Society Studies (Benghazi University) and the Van Vollenhoven Institute (Leiden University) will host the final conference of the 'Access to Justice in Libya' project at the High Institute for the Judiciary’s headquarters in Tripoli. The final conference in Tripoli will bring together Libyan academics, legal scholars,
and policymakers on Access to Justice in Libya (A2JiL), as well as international organisations working on A2JiL. During these two days, the results of this five-year research
project – which produced numerous case studies and reflection papers, as
well as a first ever nationwide survey on access to justice in
Libya – will be presented, and suggestions for steps towards a Libyan
National Strategy on A2JiL will be discussed.
The 'Access to Justice in Libya' project (2021-2026), funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has aimed to ascertain whether, to which extent, and how, in a country plagued by political and institutional divide, armed conflict and lack of security, people, especially members of vulnerable groups, have access to justice, and how to improve such access by identifying and reducing barriers.
