10 - 11 December 2024

Tunis, Gammarth

Mid-term workshop phase 3

The A2JiL team met to discuss analysis and initial findings of the A2JiL survey.

The A2JiL team met in Tunis on the 10th and 11th of December 2024 to discuss the first findings of the survey results. In September 2024, 3975 Libyans were asked about potentially legal problems they had faced in their daily lives and how they had gone about solving them. At the workshop, organised by prof. Suliman Ibrahim, the initial results were presented by Gieneke Teeuwen, and intensively discussed by the team. Participants agreed on a set of factors to focus on in the initial analyses. Furthermore, based on two case studies on public lawyers by Dr. Jazia Shaytir and Ms. Ghada al-Habib, and reports by Dr Najib Amin, a session on ‘public lawyers’ was conducted by prof. Jan Michiel Otto, exploring ways to connect findings from all three research phases. This gave rise to a lively discussion about the pros and cons of the uniquely positioned ‘public lawyers’ in Libya.
